Magic Jack waste money in rural areas - magic jack phone service
Like a lot of people, I have been sucked in by Magic Jack thinking that it would save some money on phone bills. However, I live in rural (Bush) Alaska where the internet is nowhere as good as in urban areas such as Anchorage, or down in the "lower 48". Based on this and Magic Jacks dependence on broadband speeds, I have not been able to have a single phone call through Magic Jack without severe break-up on my and the recipent's end. I am very disappointed in this, however, I may have to wait and see if this changes when I travel. At this point though, I rate Magic Jack with a 2 out of 10. I can only hope that there is some improvement during my travels.

0 I have the same problem,only while talking to my mom which has good internet service there,and cell service,it's not that country,yet I can talk to other people that is way out in the country without breaking up at all. People are also having trouble with their cell phones not letting them call through magicjack.I have no caller ID on call waiting either.Dont like the way you have to make a three way call either,has to be prearrainged since the other two people have to call you. I have never done this but have read thats how it has to be done.It also takes anywhere to half an hour to an hour for a voice mail to show up in your mailbox.
0 Magicjack (and their CLEC which actually handles the calls-YMAX) blocks connections to MANY rural telephone companies. So if you want to call anybody on a rural land line you may be SOL.

0 I have found, when using magic jack, that I would have no unnecessary programs running in the back ground such as yahoo messenger.This is very important
