  • Not worth the Effort

I have had Magic jack for almost a year. After having problems with people on the other end being able to hear me, I contacted customer service who helped walk me through what needed to be done. However, I can honestly say that I have received not more than ten fully completed calls - that is, where I picked up the phone and was able to speak with someone during this one year period. By contrast, I have not been able to make more than that many outgoing calls during this same period. The computer connected to magic jack is left on,. However, each time someone logs off or logs on the... More...

  • MagicJack subscription renewal

Customer service when attempting to renew my subscription is poor. My renewal date was 11/9, today is the 19th and the problem hasn't been defined or solved. Calling customer service in Florida did not help. Got the same information that I got on their online chat which I would guess in in India. MagicJack does not tell you it is time to renew..they just block outgoing calls and announce a system problem. You are left to go to your account at their website to discover that you need to resubscribe. From there it has just gone downhill. More...

  • Unable to make phone call

Of course there is no customer support that I can contact regarding this problem. I cannot make a phone call or receive one. The magic jack has worked very well the past couple of months. (have used it for 4 years). Since last night I cannot get a dial tone and cannot receive phone calls. I bought a new phone to see if that was the problem. It made no difference. I checked my account and message stated they were updating system and so I could not access system. Kind of annoys me because I just paid for my next year's service a month ago. More...

  • Sound quality when speaking with someone is inconsistent

I have used magic jack for three years sand have been pleased with it. Recently however, beginning a year ago I would have problems speaking with companies when I needed to speak with customer service. About half the time they would tell me they couldn't hear me. After renewing (at the increased price change) now I find that my personal conversations are not being heard on a consistent basis. I'll be talking and all of a sudden the person on the other end says they can't hear me. I don't why the quality seems to have deteriorated. For someone on a fixed income... More...

  • Dishonest Auto-Renewal

After purchasing my 2nd MagicJack and setting it up, I was happy with the service. This was until I received an email saying that it was due for "AUTO-RENEWAL" and that $20.01 would be charged to my credit card on the date etc. Of course I was caught totally off guard since I always believe in a company firstly SEEKING your approval before charging anything to your credit card...not just telling you "Hey...I'm going to charge this to your credit card". I contacted MagicJack on this issue and their representative told me that the default feature on the MagicJack... More...

  • Magic Jack-one major flaw

Although overall, the magic jack has been inexpensive and mostly reliable (sometimes there are sound problems), it has one major flaw. When a caller with a private/restricted number (or a skype or google phone call) tries to call, the call won't go through, instead, they get a lengthy advertisement for Magic Jack, leading most of them to hang up thinking they had the wrong number. If they are patient enough to wait through the add, they get a notice saying that caller ID does not recognize the number and they need to unblock it or use another phone. The advertisement is very tacky and... More...

  • You get what you pay for

It is a good example that you get what you pay for. The price is great for unlimited local and long distance calls. However, there are some annoying issues. While on a call, the sound is clear but intermittent. I rarely have a conversation without missing some of the words. In addition, there are many times when I call a number which results in an odd tone similar to a busy tone, but if I call the same number using my cell phone, it connects without a problem. When I contacted customer service, they said it was an area not covered by Majicjack. For the money, I'll keep Majicjack as... More...

  • MagicJack PROBLEMS

MagicJack Easy enough to install, voice quality good, like the ability to use a conventional phone handset. I discovered early on that numerous US phone numbers I call would not go through. I get the “fast busy” signal when they are called. So 6 weeks ago I figured out how to get on a “live chat” with one of MagicJack’s agents. After explaining the problem including giving them several of the phone numbers that don’t work the agent upgraded me to one of their top 10% agents and after about another 20 minutes this agent told me that the problem would... • Inadequate Magic Jack support

I usually get good help from the Magic Jack helpers, but twice when they could not help, I was put on eternal hold and they never came back. I would love to speak to the Magic Jack executives and tell them they need more adequately trained helpers.. I'm on a Mac and they seem not to understand Macs well. I would gladly speak to a real Magic Jack employee, but these foreign speaking people who give themselves American names are often not trained well enough, so I would tell Magic Jack to try getting help from themselves and to see how they like it? • Majic Jack

I just bought a majic jack and am using it in a foreign country. Majicjack is by far the most regrettable device I have ever bought. I cant hear grass what the other party is saying and the call keeps dropping. I thought it was my dsl internet but I used skype on that same connection and it worked excellent. I do not at this time encourage any person to buy a majicjack.I would say this product is full of shit for $19.95 a year. Big up skype. More...

  • Magic Jack quality downward slide

Magic Jack promised to be the convenient economical alternatives to many internet based phone services. The user pays a one time hardware fee of $39.95 and there after a $19.95 annual fee for free US and Canadian calls. The problem is, the service can be at times spotty - that's compared to a Skype software installed on the same computer. The worst part is, it is going down hill, things are getting worse and worse. Dialing nowadays is a hit or miss. Calls get dropped. When I signed up, they said I'll be able to change my number for free once; now, there is a $4.95 for the... More...

  • Not renew

I've had my MagicJack for 13 months. MJ met my expectations. Since cell connection in my neighborhood is unreliable, I used MJ in conjunction with my primary land line as a second phone service. I found it to be reliable and clear. Using MJ for long distance I've saved more money than the cost of hardware and annual service fee. However, once I renewed the service when down for 3 or 4 days. Then it was functional for a week. It hasn't worked since. And, since renewal attempt, the hardware locks up my computer. I'm running Dell dimension 9100, 2.8GHz and 3.5G RAM on... More...

  • linux support

I used to use Skype but it kept dropping calls and it costs a lot more than magicjack. I have used it for a couple of years now and it works pretty well. My complaint is they promised linux support in the first quarter of 2010 and that time has passed almost a month ago. I want to use my mj on my linux computer since it is so much more reliable than windows. Their customer service keeps saying it is coming "soon" but I think the real answer is never. There are workarounds to get it to work with linux but that requires virtual windows and I would need another windows license for... More...

  • Don't Believe the Hype of Magic Jack

After purchasing a Magic Jack unit through the internet, from, I installed the unit on my computer. Up untill today, I am using the unit as a secondary phone line for business calls and to send faxes. I am definitely NOT satisfied with the unit. Upon first startup of my computer, it would take about 20 minutes to start. Additionaly, I cannot run any other applications on my computer while Magic Jack is starting. I would have to go away and come back in about 20-25 minutes (very frustrating) before I can get control of my computer. No one at Magic Jack has any answer as... More...

  • Magic Jack Customer Service

I just purchased and installed my Magic Jack a few moments ago. I made my first call successfully but the person I called said the caller ID was from an area other than I thought I chose. I called customer service to correct the mistake and was told I had to pay $4.95 to change my number. I had only had the number for 5 minutes and the new number would have been in the same area code, just different county/calling area. Apparently there are no exceptions. Product working as expected but the customer service was a major disappointment. Be careful when you register or a mistake could... More...

  • You get what you pay for

Got my magic jack and it's easy to set up, cool idea and the price is VERY cheap. However.... you get what you pay for. The call quality is horrible, and you can barely hear anything. Tried moving it to a different usb, but sounds like beeping in the background with static. So if you absolutely need something to get you by, then this is for you. If you want to be able to hear the person your talking too and not say "what" every five seconds, then don't. More...

  • what MJ does NOT tell you

I used NetPhone back in the 90's and it was great, so I thought 10 years later, this would be even better. The sound quality is actually not as good. Then I went and bought a new phone to use with my new service... but it would not ring. I tried EVERYTHING working on it for hours, and after several attempts Tech Support from MJ (and it won't be an obvious button on the website) I was told by their operator that MJ "doesn't work well with new phones, or cordless, or multiple phones. It's a known problem, because the USB power supply on most PC's is insufficient... More...

  • English customer service please

First of all let it be known that only one magic jack number at a time can be used on any given computer. It took 45 minutes with a non-English speaking CSR from Magic Jack to figure this out. My question to them was this: can more than one magic jack phone number be used on the same computer? I have one for home and one I use for my business. Simple question...right? Wrong! After 45 minutes of horsing around, the CSR asked me to call myself on each phone to see what happened. I did as requested, though I thought it unusual. After all, shouldn't they know this? Results:... More...

  • Buyer beware

I purchased a majic jack in Jan 2008 and it hooked up to my lap top with windows premium vista, however I use a linksys router and my toshiba computer told me that permanent hard drive damage was done. I could not reach anyone with the majic jack company to complain or to get my money back. Another friend purchased a majic jack and it caught her hard drive on fire! Let the buyer beware. Customer service was non-existent when it was critically needed and NO WAY TO GET MONEY BACK! More...

  • Support is awful

First off let me say that the product works fairly well. The only problem is that their support is not very knowledgeable . Yesterday, I performed a software upgrade and the software asked me to re-register. Well, I tried to but the software kept giving me an error message. Since there is no phone number for support I opened a chat window and the initial person I spoke with had no clue as to what was going on. Finally I asked to speak to a manger, so the person transferred me to a higher level of tech support. That person didn't have a clue either. He kept wanting me to make... More...

  • you get what you pay for

I have been using Magic jack for about 6 months now. Initially I was very satisfied with it. However, having used it for a while I am annoyed that magic jack is not very reliable. The problems I experience on a weekly basis are: hearing an echo of my voice, the person I'm calling complaining about the call breaking up hearing every third word, I try to place a call it rings once then nothing so I have to call again, unable to receive incoming calls even though my computer is up and running the magic jack program, constant errors trying to use my phone line to place or receive a fax... • Not reliable

I purchased my Magic Jack a month ago. It is not reliable. Sometimes I can't get it to dial out. Sometimes other people can't hear me. Sometimes it works. There is a beeping noise on the others line. I hear it once in awhile. I definitely would not by it for my primary line. I use my cell phone for incoming calls and then save some air time by using Magic Jack for my outgoing calls. More...

  • Worth what you pay

THIS IS A PRODUCT THAT IS WORTH WHAT YOU PAY. I GUESS FOR THE $39.00 INCLUDING YOUR 1st YEARS SERVICE IT not a bad deal. But to use it as a replacement of you full time line, "FORGET IT" The jack I have has to be reset every other day wiothout fail, otherwise it sounds like your underwater. I am using the Majic Jack on a high speed cable connection at home and a high speed DSL in my office and they are both suffer from the same problem. I called customer service and they wanted me to go into my computers registery. The tech who is online only in of course India could not even tell... More...

We ordered MJ a little over a year ago and paid for a two year service, after one year the MJ cancelled and we can not find a phone number to call and get it straightened out. Our tele nbr is 417-725-7720 our MJ # was 972-220-8872. The 2nd year was $19.95 so that was a rip off for the year 2. Otherwise no complaints on 1st year. More...
