    MY magic jack disconnects almost every day. When it disconnects, a window opens up telling me to plug in my magic jack. This window locks my computer for some reason.     Purchased majic jack a couple of years ago, Never worked very good. Decided to let the subscription lasp, but didn't know they had a recurring option on payments. Went to my account and turned off recurring payments and forgot about it. This year I received an email that on 2/17/2012 I would be billed 31.00 for the next year and if I needed to make any changes I had one hour to make them.     Majic Jack is over rated.The connection is horrible and the service is even worst. I have been trying to resolve an issue for over 1 month and all the agents keep sending me in circles without addressing the real issue which is their fault. They had a promotion but rejected credit cards when you tried to take advantage of the promotion. Now that the price has increase the site now accepts the card but does not allow you to renew.     I have had the regular magicjack for a couple of years, and for the most part it worked fine. After reading the reviews, I decided to give magicjack plus a try since it was not necessary to keep it plugged into a computer, and this sounded like a good thing.     Magic Jack Plus was marketed as a "free trial" when it was nothing of a sort. First I paid by credit card for shipping and handling and then charged $30.00 for a port out charge when I canceled just 4 days after receiving the device. Next, no one was able to help me to get the device to function properly unless it was plugged into the computer, the very thing I did not want to do. Decided to use one for a call center, I got a number (347-757-5841), but one day, as I was doing telemarketing with it; my magic jack did the magic and blocked all incoming and outgoing calls.     I have been a Magicjack customer for nearly 5 years. I bought it the first I heard of it back in late 2007. When we bought it, it worked great and you were able to call them for actual help. I had the same problem last year: renewed online when magicjack was plugged in. It didn't renew & I was unable to use the device for two days now.     My parents are 90 and 91 and have Magicjack. It suddenly stopped working, though their account is paid through 9-15-15. I spent 2 hours this afternoon trying to fix it, including calling billing (which was a 25 minute wait) and it didn't fix the problem. (They can all see that their account is paid through 2015 but no one can tell me why is says "Has no active service" online under "my account".) Had phone number ported away from Magic Jack Plus over a week ago to Vonage. I can only call out, any incoming callers get a message from MagicJack that I'm not at home and to leave a message. I have contacted magicJack Plus several time and can't seems to care because they were just giving me the same escuses.

There are a few good reviews and several quoted out of context in mJ ads. It is too bad the reviewers missed the two most important things; reliability and customer service. MagicJerk has neither! Give it 90 days as the reviewer should have, and it may be dead by then. Try to get the company to do anything about it and you are in for 7 to 10 hours of Internet chat. I’m on my third one, and it took me 9.5 hours, a ruined laptop and more patience than I knew I had just for the privilege of paying “small” fees for another replacement.

After the second one died, it took 11 hours over two days to get them to agree to a replacement. I printed out the ridiculous chats, intending to mail them to the CEO. Then I discovered there isn’t one. No phone number, no address anywhere to be found. Then, a few days later I had the good fortune to dial a wrong number and got a recording from WyMAX Communications, the same guys doing the hot spots all over the country. I checked with the SEC and found that, indeed, they own magicJerk. So I called them. They hotly denied owning the company and gave me a phone number to an answering machine. Twelve calls later, I decided they were never going to reply. Then I found an address; a PO box in Boca, FL where lots of scam artists and drug lords live. They don’t answer mail, either.

My wife accused me of being paranoid, so I googled mJ. I say many, many reviews there and on Amazon saying they had the same problems.

These crooks know few people have the time or patience to spend, literally, days on the phone over a $70 piece of crap. But if you don’t, you will loose the phone number you had to pay them to port. One poor guy lost one he had for 45 years, according to a review on Google.

It is a disservice when a reviewer like this one doesn’t even bother to look up someone on line or with the BBB before recommending such junk sold by crooks.

I tried the magic jack plus and compared with old one, the plus didn't perform as well. Calls had low volume and wasn't usable at all. That's why I returned it. I tried all sorts of tweaks and tests but didn't solve the problem. I tried to hava a replacement, but no use with Customer support (TS), return was the only option. So I couldn't test another one. I'm sticking with all version.

I'm a 3-year user. MJ generally works, albeit with occassional 'beeps', hang-ups and echos. Of course, I can say the same of most cell phones. Their greatest deficiency is that no one at MagicJack can READ. If they could, they would notice that ALL of their customers are ANGRY about the nasty, ineffective, non-existent customer service and chat operators. This is major. We're not simply a little disgruntled, we are ANGRY and telling potential customers to stay away! Doesn't this register with anyone at MJ?

Ok so I originally bought a Magic Jack, despite its limitation of having to be plugged into a computer that is on in order to work. Now they have come out with the Magic Jack Plus and it works with or without a computer so I want to upgrade.

I check to see if they have an upgrade program and am told no that I have to pay FULL PRICE and can't even transfer my existing years of service that I have left over. I tell them how unfair this is for loyal existing customers that have bought the original Magic Jack in good faith believing this was one of the most and best cost effective way to make calls even though it couldn't be used without a computer. I also tell them that to advertise a product as that best most cost effective method and then develop a new product that can call without computers and expect customers who bought the other product in good faith to pay FULL PRICE to upgrade is just A SCAM!!!

Magic Jack is A SCAM!!! DO NOT buy ANY Magic Jack products EVER!!!

I purchased 4 magic jacks, 3 of them were the gifts for my friends. I got free local phone numbers for the first 3 magic jack as I was told, however, for my 4th magic jack, while I was registering it on their website, the website didn't route me to the process of selecting my area code, but assigned me a "424" area code number automatically. After a few days, everyone was complaining that they have to long distance fee to call me. I contacted the customer service, explained that the website didn't go through the normal process of selecting my area code, and asked them help to fix it. Someone named Amelia told me that I have to pay an additional $10 to change the number to my local area code. I explained again that it was not my fault that I didn't get a chance to choose my area code, she insisted that it was my problem, she couldn't help me unless I pay. I asked to talk to her supervisor, her supervisor "Riona" told me rudely that if I want to change to my local area code, i have to pay. I explained my unhappiness about her customer service attitude, she simply ended our chatting window without even asking my permission. I am not sure what i did wrong -- I thought we could get a free local number with your magic jack, and instead I got a number in other states. I wasn't sure why their website didn't take me through the process of selecting the area code as usual, they told me that I have to pay additional to correct the mistake on their end. And I have never seen a customer service would end the live chatting session without asking the customer's permission, and that woman is even a supervisor of the customer service, unbelievable!

I have a Magic Jack and I like it and it works fine. The problem is that Magic Jack will not accept a prepaid visa gift card as payment for additional year(s). The Magic Jack web site states that prepaid cards can be used. See their FAQ response to "What forms of payment can I use?" When I talked to their chat personnel, they logged the problem to their "engineers". In the meantime, they were unable to credit my acct for 1 more year of service while the problem is being worked on. It was only $19.95. My complaint is that they should be able to renew my account while their "engineers" are fixing the problem ... it is only $19.95!!!

I cannot receive a call with magicjack. It will call out. There are not enough or easy to understand instructions with the magicjack. I cannot access the caller id or receive any messages. It really is only worth 1.70 a month.

i had magic jack for two yrs i told them some one is on the line listening when you talk some one push buttons when its a bussines call you never here buttons push not the person is talking to slow or not good then you here buttons pushed they tried to act like they dont no what im talking about went through many people still the same now they got it to were you can here the buttons pushed not the other caller my dont wont they call it the police phone they are aware of it they heard the buttons so now they lost money because they have lot of friends that would have purchase it still having the same problems

Had a storm a week or so ago and since then I can receive calls, but cannot make them from the telephone. I can call from the computer and when it rings at the other end I can pick up the house phone and talk. I do have the MENU setting on TELEPHONE!

Sound quality if awful and the service is extremely unreliable. When you pick up the phone you've got a 50/50 chance it'll be working. What the fine print too. There's a limit on the number of calls you can make each month. Also, if you pay for the five-year service they'll claim you only have a year's subscription after the first year and will try to rip you off. YOu'll have to jump through tons of hoops to prove them wrong.

I did not try the device and I don’t think I will after my chat with the MagicJack customer support which I wasted more than hour without getting any helpful solution. Notice that there is no customer support phone number or email. The only choice you have is chat. What I observed in my chat with them today March 12, 2011 unprofessional customer service, hold for ever, transfer you from to another, every time you have to repeat your problem more than 10 times, and at the end rudeness. Also, they want transfer you to their supervisor or either give you his contact information if you want to report something. According their worthless customer service, this company is unable to access, reset or manage any of their devices (MJ USB) after it been sold and registered for the first time. So, their devices are one time (one person) use. How I trust a company how does not know how to deal with their own devices!!!

I like Magicjack. It works well for what I paid for it. It's not the best communications product there is, but it is cheap. I've had it for several years.

Recently they introduced Magictalk. I have been told that in addition to the $19.95 yearly charge for MJack, that I will have to pay another $19.95 a year if I also want Magictalk. I feel it should be a lot less expensive than that since I already have their other product. Can't I pay one low yearly charge for both products? Please work on this Magicjack/talk.

MJ sucks Big Time! 2 days and 7 errors of chat to try and get a connection. Do this, Do that, turn off your virus, turn off your firewall, allow cookies, add ports, add a DNS Server address, un effen plug it and plug it back in, try a different usb connection, restart it, download programs (which are a sales gimmic and a form of spyware). A lot of tedious balogne that involves a lot more than "plug it in! thats it!". I needed to call unemployment office for on a very important phone call and guess what? MJ shut down when I needed it the most. The chats took FOREVER! and a day. Their chat responce time is way non efficient and unproductive. Screw MJ!

I've had MJ for about 3 months now; would I buy it again? I don't know. I haven't had the sound quality problems other users have, but it is a bit of a hassle to deal with. I'm not crazy about having to leave my computer turned on all day long, or miss calls. But if I shut it down, MJ has to be rebooted as well. And it has not yet, even once, taken ONLY a minute to reset--more like 3. On the other hand, saving $30/month or more for standard phone service is attractive. So far, MJ has saved me a decent amount of money, but I am tracking my problems with it and will take a very close look at them before I renew my service.

CUSTOMER REVIEW OF MAGIC JACK: I have been a happy user of MAGIC JACK for three months. About two days ago all Cell Phones were blocked from calling my MAGIC JACK phone number. Callers hear a recorded message telling them to contact their respective carrier. MAGIC JACK has only “Chat” support. I “Chatted” with four different representatives and informed all of the following:

I cannot receive calls from ALL cell phones.
I am able to receive calls from land lines.
I called another MAGIC JACK customer from my cell phone and the call went through fine.
Several different callers using Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, Nextel, and T-Mobile were all unable to call through. They all received a recorded message from MAGIC JACK instructing them to call (305) 848-8288 (a MAGIC JACK routing number).
Are all Cell Phone Carriers affected?

Here is MAGIC JACK’s Response:
“Please contact your cell phone carrier so that they can do the fixes for your line”.
“You are not the only one having issues like that right now… that is why you need to contact your carrier so that they will be informed that you are affected with the routing issue”.
“Yes, all cell phone carriers”.
“That's a cell phone issue this time.”
“Yes, you can receive calls with land lines because the problem lies only on the cell phones' carrier providers.”

As you can see I have gotten nowhere with MAGIC JACK. They absolutely refuse to do anything or take responsibility for the problem. Buyer beware. If it sounds too good to be true…

I had my Magic Jack for around 3 months with no problem, then I got a message"Luck You, Up grading now". Well I'm not lucky because it hasn't worked since. I have tried everything. I have a dial tone but the calls don't go through. So much for saving money.

I was considering starting the 30 day free trial of magic jack until I read all the complaints. There is no way I would put up with this kind of service just to save a few bucks. If/when they ever get this corrected, I may chceck back again if I live so long.

I am likely the worlds biggest skeptic, that being said, I am also the person who has to try all the new techie type gadgets. I have used magicjack now for about a year (I bought the 5 year plan when I purchased). I have been pleased with the unit in all aspects. I have a mac and recently upgraded to a new imac and macbook. I did experience some "issues" with the new computers. I contacted magicjack through their online text based chat. Yes, it is obvious the agent is from India (based on text patterns - but come on the things costs almost nothing, cut em a break) however, they responded fast enough and continued to help until the problems were resolved. (Problem was fixed by a simple and fast software download and some tweaking of the settings).

I have read some bad reviews for this product and I have to say, I can't imagine being happier with a product (remembering back to the days of 400.00+ phone bills -lol-)

Color me satisfied and can't wait to see what "magictalk" is going to be, as it is said to be rolling out soon!

Terrible customer service. After a week of chats the unit still can not be activated. Their "live help" chat is totally useless and they care less because they get paid up front.

I would pass on magicjack and can not recommend the service because of the customer "NO" service.
Their only support is via chat, there are no phone numbers and you can't actually chat with someone that has a clue.

When the unit worked, I was fine with it but a company has to stand behind their product and magic jack clearly doesn't.

Also, if you do try it, go for the one year plan as they may not be around much longer.

I have had Magic Jack now for at least 5 months, good bye high monthly phone bills. Seems like most of the people above have a bad internet or ISP connection. I have one kid in Texas, one in Afghanistan (3d tour), and one in Korea (2d tour) and my sons call us once or two times a week and the connection sounds like it is coming from next door, yea, we have about a 4 or 5 second delay but from 20,000 miles away - that's normal - only problem with it, is when I shut the computer down, it takes at least 20 minutes for it all to boot up again - computer is 7 years old but I can wait. I am not a majic jack customer but I am getting phone calls every 15 minutes from the number 638-1811 which says "welcome to majic jack, the number you are calling is no longer a working number." This is insanity!!! How do I make it stop? These calls just keep coming all day up until about midnight.I now HATE majic jack!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had it for 3 years and it works great. It is not for those that can't diagnose simple problems. You need a HIGH SPEED internet. Even vontage needs it. I will admit that their ads are to simplistic and don't give you any facts.

I called people i bought from and told them that the magic jack only partially work intermittingly
and they said it was because i used a air card i told them all i was asked was if i had hi speed and said "i said yes-since my air card is hi speed" they said well partially hi speed? Unless you have a land line or hi speed wifi don't buy.
once you activate you have to pry your money out with a pry bar.

This thing is magic junk.More trouble than it is worth.I spent three hours on line and lost $90.00 dollars from my job to try and fix this magic junk.I am sure the tech was paid more than the $19.00 it cost for his work.I got tired and told them this was silly and suggested they just send me A new magic junk.You would have though I was trying to rob them.They said no but they were willing to pay the tech another three hours to try and fix it.It just does not add up for what the magic junk cost. Just send a new one and save some money and customers.Don't buy this thing it is junk and never works like it should.

WOW!!! I guess I'm stuck with, over priced, AT&T... I was thinking about Vonage, looked into it a little... I guess they adopted a little practice, of continuing to charge you... Even after you get away from them... For the phone number, they think they own,,, yours... Seems little good is said about MJ , but their was something interesting said, that "might" be a help.. More memory, & problems with fire wall, blocking JM... For those of you, that are having problems with Magic Jack...

I am searching your website for information on if and how Magic Jack works for sending and receiving a FAX. I use an HP L-7780 All-In-One (Scan, Copy, Print, FAX) and would love to have a Magic Jack IF it will work with my computer FAX maching.

I bought the magic jack at my local Radio Shack about 3 days ago..It works brilliantly for me..Voice clarity is awesome..It rings when people call me. The onscreen control is awesome..It shows whos calling, they can leave a msg and it emails you the message in .wav format.I think people that dont like it either A: dont know much about computers and kinda freaks them out or B: they have a crappy ISP. I have fiber optic service that is 15mbps download and 15mbps upload and my magic jack works flawlessly.So Long AT&T and your $68 a MONTH phone bill!!!! Love this product!!!!!!
